Interior entrance of the Dimora

Bianca Ducale

Where Venice stops being a backdrop.

Our way of living inside history

Living in a residence from 1278 is not an aesthetic choice — it is a responsibility. Every maintenance or restoration work is entrusted to specialist local craftsmen, because certain materials and techniques cannot be improvised.

Inside the residence original pieces can still be found: antique ironwork, one fireplace still exposed and another converted into a wardrobe — because in Venice open fires are prohibited, and those who have inhabited these houses for centuries have learned to adapt without losing character.

Hospitality that does not forget where it stands

Welcoming guests well, for us, also means preserving well. The comfort we offer our guests and the respect for this residence are not in contradiction — they are the same thing.

A home, first of all. Then a place to stay.

Here the word Dimora is not a label: it describes an atmosphere. Before becoming a guesthouse, this place was a private home from 1278. You can feel it.

The spaces are designed for those who appreciate discretion, order and a slower pace: come back, close the door, and rediscover a quieter, more personal Venice.

Intimate hospitality, without formality

We are not a large hotel, and we do not want to be. We prefer a handful of rooms, attention to detail and organised hospitality — present when needed, never intrusive.

Bianca Ducale: a name rooted in history

Every word in this name has a documented root, certified by the historical archives of Venice.

Bianca is a tribute to Bianca Cappello, who stayed in this residence before fleeing to Florence for love — one of the most celebrated and human gestures of sixteenth-century Venice. Wife of Francesco I de' Medici, a figure defined by character, destiny and irreversible choices.

Ducale recalls Francesco Molin, 99th Doge of Venice, who lived here during the period in which he owned it. Not a symbolic reference: a real presence, within these walls.

The name is not a style label. It is a precise memory.

Our style: nothing excessive, nothing missing

Bianca Ducale does not chase an aesthetic — it maintains a character. The spaces respect the original proportions, the details are chosen with care and consistency, and the feeling sought is simple: to feel at ease in a place with a real history.

Contemporary comfort and Venetian atmosphere are not in contradiction. Here they coexist, without one overwhelming the other.

A few practical points

San Polo is a central and authentic neighbourhood: Rialto is about five minutes on foot, the ACTV stop at San Silvestro two minutes away — with no bridges to cross. The rooms are all different from one another, with the same standard of comfort, and the common areas are designed for those who want to read, plan, or simply slow down.

Six rooms, one standard

The rooms at Bianca Ducale are not all the same — and that is not a flaw.

The view changes, the light changes, the atmosphere changes. What does not change is the level of care: same amenities, same attention, same comfort in every room. Choose based on what you want to find outside your window. We take care of the rest.

Everything you need. Nothing missing.

Private bathroom, air conditioning, minibar, coffee machine and kettle, courtesy set, table and chairs.

Venice provides the rest, outside your window.

Venice at your own pace. The best way to experience it.

Venice is unique, but it can become exhausting if you chase it. We prefer the opposite: a city to walk through, with well-timed pauses, well-chosen addresses and days that do not resemble a checklist.

A few days before your arrival we share practical information and suggestions designed for those who want to experience Venice at a more natural pace — especially if you are staying two, three or four nights.

Useful resources

San Polo: central, authentic, still Venetian

San Polo is not just a convenient location — it is a neighbourhood that has kept something rare: the daily life of the real city. Narrow alleyways, quiet courtyards, shops that still exist for Venetians. Steps from the most famous landmarks, yet contained enough to make you forget you are in one of the most visited places in the world.

A proper base, in the fullest sense of the word.
